Cheltenham care home go the extra mile for starlight walk

Home news

A care home in Cheltenham stepped up to the challenge after taking part in the Leckhampton Court Starlight Hike.

The team at Sandfields care home took part in the 10K walk to raise much needed funds for hospice care for local families. The care home was the primary sponsor for the event and head chef, David Morgan, even prepared special cupcakes for participants.

Almost 400 local people participated in the hike, which followed a marshalled route around Cheltenham. Participants were encouraged to wear bright, neon clothing to light up the sky in memory of loved ones.

For the first time, walkers were also given the chance to walk through the hospice grounds for people to leave a dedication to their loved ones.

Deanna Lane, home manager at Sandfields, said: “We really enjoyed taking part in the Starlight Hike, and the team was thrilled to be able to support Leckhampton Court Hospice. The charity is close to the hearts of everyone at Sandfields, so it was a privilege to support this important event and walk alongside the community remembering loved ones.”

Elise Hoadley, Director at Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice said, “Starlight Hike would not have been as successful without the support of our sponsors Care UK Sandfields Care Home. Not only did they support us financially, allowing us to organise the event without having to divert our precious charity funding away from providing care, they provided volunteers on the night and entered a team raising funds for us too. I would like to thank everyone at Care UK for their incredible support of our charity helping us make Cheltenham glow in memory of loved ones and raise much needed funds for our hospice.”
