Appleby House has taken inspiration from popular television programme “The Great British Bake Off” to help raise funds and awareness for a local charity.

The team based on Longmead Road invited the local community to take part in “The Great Appleby Bake Off”, whisking up almost £200 for The Carers of Epsom.

The Carers of Epsom organisation was set up in 1988 to support unpaid carers in the local community. The independent charity now supports over 2000 carers, providing free guidance on how to look after loved ones and help carers maintain their own relationships and lifestyles.

Residents at Appleby House were joined by friends, family and visitors to take part in the competition. Star Baker went to Tracey Judd, lifestyle co-ordinator at Appleby House, with Tom Judd, the care home’s maintenance man, coming a close second and Shona Bradbury, home manager in third place.

Speaking about the event, Shona Bradbury, home manager at Appleby House, said: “At Care UK, we are always looking at ways of showing our support for charities and the local community and we are delighted that we were able to show our support for a very worthwhile cause.

The event was a great success and we were thrilled to see many of our neighbor’s joining the Care UK team and residents for a fun day with family and friends.”

The money raised from the day will be going to Musical Memories, a new service from the Carers of Epsom that provides singing and music lessons to people living with dementia.

Claire Robertson, Service Manager at Cares of Epsom, said: “We are really thankful to Shona and the Care UK team at Appleby House for hosting this event and helping us raise money for Musical Memories, a new service from the Carers of Epsom that provides fun music and singing sessions for people living with dementia and their Carers. The sessions are held every week at the Kings Church in Epsom.”
