Thorrington care home wins approval of national care inspectors

Home news

A national care watchdog has given a care home in Thorrington the seal of approval, with relatives and residents praising the home’s caring team members.

The Care Quality Commission’s (CQC) report gave Silversprings care home an overall ‘good’ rating, following an unannounced inspection. To assess service standards at Silversprings, the CQC’s inspector spoke with team members, residents and their visiting relatives on the day of the inspection. They also reviewed the records and procedures already in place at the care home.

The inspectors highlighted how the Care UK team treated residents with respect and dignity and were knowledgeable about the residents’ needs. It was observed that the care team had a strong understanding of residents’ personal preferences around mealtimes with one resident commenting that, “there is always plenty of choice.”

The report highlighted that residents said they were treated well at Silversprings. One resident said: "[The team] are very good. They are caring and friendly and look after me well." The inspector noted how the care team members spoke to residents in a kind, caring manner and found ways to communicate effectively with all residents.

Susan Oates, home manager at Silversprings, said: “We strive to create a welcoming home from home at Silversprings, and I’m so pleased our efforts have been recognised by the CQC’s inspectors. Everyone here works incredibly hard to support residents with compassionate, person-centred care, and to be rated ‘good’ shows just how committed the team is to making a positive difference to resident’s lives each and every day.

“I’m extremely proud of our team and I would like to take say thank you for their hard work and dedication, which I know is also greatly appreciated by residents and their families.”

Inspectors further noted that the residents were encouraged by the Care UK team to enjoy pastimes and interests of their choice, with social activities including Scrabble and art classes taking place on a regular basis.

Inspectors heard how monthly trips into the local community are organised for residents to take part in events that reflect their interests and needs.
