Framlingham care home get in tune with handbell ringers

Home news

Mills Meadow care home residents were treated to a unique musical performance when a local handbell ringing club paid a special festive visit to the care home in Framlingham.

Residents were joined by Otley St Mary Handbell Ringers for an afternoon of tuneful ringing. The group performed a mixture of traditional songs, classical excerpts, stage musical numbers, carols and hymns. Residents also had the opportunity to join in by clapping and trying out bell ringing for themselves.

Family members joined residents and the team for the musical performance, which got everyone in the festive spirit.

Marie Reeve, home manager at Mills Meadow, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents and, as so many have a keen interest in music, we invited Otley St Mary Handbell Ringers to come along and perform for residents.

“It proved to be a real success, and you could see from residents’ reactions just how much they enjoyed the music - especially having a go at bell ringing for themselves.  Not only did the performance fit really well with our ‘activity based care’ approach here at Mills Meadow, it was also fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces, and we believe it had real therapeutic benefits for residents – especially those living with dementia.”
