RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch lands at St Vincent’s House

Home news

Following the annual RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch last weekend, birds and wildlife of all shapes and sizes were spotted at St Vincent’s House.

St Vincent’s House hosted a variety of activities ahead of the world’s largest annual wildlife survey. The residents welcomed St Paul’s Primary School in to help create bird-friendly habitats, and discussed the best ways to encourage birdlife into the gardens with the Hammersmith Communication Garden Association.

The RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch encourages people throughout the UK to take a closer look at the nature on their doorsteps by counting the different birds, as well as recording any non-bird species such as badgers and hedgehogs, which visit their garden in any one hour.

Adeyemi Salawu, home manager at St Vincent’s House, explained: “As well as helping to support an important national initiative from the RSPB, the Birdwatch also provided an excellent opportunity for nature-loving residents to either spend time in the garden listening to bird song, or to spot visiting birds and wildlife from the comfort of our lounge overlooking the garden.

“At St Vincent’s House, we support residents to participate in outdoor and sensory activities as they can boost emotional and physical wellbeing, as well as help residents to live meaningful and fulfilled lives. The Birdwatch also proved to be a valuable reminiscence activity for those living with dementia, and everyone enjoyed spotting and naming the many bird and wildlife species which paid us a visit over the weekend.”
