On Monday 20th March, more than 50 care homes will be celebrating the forces’ sweetheart’s milestone birthday by singing the iconic wartime song.
Throughout World War II, “We’ll Meet Again” was an incredibly poignant song for the soldiers at war and their loved ones awaiting their return. Even in peacetime, the song is incredibly evocative for many older people.
Residents at Care UK care homes have been having fun rehearsing for the celebration, culminating in a video tribute to the national treasure.
Debra Fox, Care UK’s national expert in dementia, commented: “Vera Lynn is an iconic figure for many of our residents, so what better way to celebrate her 100th birthday than with a sing-along to her most well-loved song.
“Singing can be a powerful reminiscence activity, and many of our residents will have grown up listening to her music. Even when memories become particularly hard to remember, sometimes music can still be recalled. A group sing-along can help bring memories to the surface and its often very enjoyable for those living with dementia, and can precipitate people talking about their earlier years.”
We are happy to arrange interviews with a range of experts, commentary on industry issues and site visits for filming, photography or sound recording. Please get in touch with your requirements and we will do our best to arrange a suitable response.
