Good health and nutrition on the menu at Cedrus House

Home news

The team at Cedrus House will be serving up some tasty inspiration for anyone looking to find out more about nutrition and healthy eating in later life on Tuesday 16th May.

From 2pm-4pm, James Clear and Andrew Mussett, hotel services managers, will lead the free event where they will share their knowledge and provide practical advice on healthy eating and hydration for older people.

They will also give top tips for stimulating appetite and discuss examples of how menus can be adapted to suit special dietary needs – for people living with dementia, for example.

Visitors will be able to try a host of delicious sample dishes, freshly prepared by the care home’s head chef. There will be tempting sandwiches and desserts prepared and served especially for those with swallowing difficulties, as well as homemade fortified drinks and delicious family favourites, such as fish pie, made with fresh herbs, lemon and cream.

After the event, James and Andrew will be on hand to answer any questions and there will also be an opportunity for members of the public to meet the team and take a tour of Cedrus House.

The event follows the launch of the free guide, Eating as we age. Designed to help anyone who experiences problems with eating or drinking, as well as those caring for an older friend or relative, Eating as we age is an easy-to-follow guide which pools the expertise of chefs and the experiences of care professionals.

Michelle Webster, home manager at Cedrus House said: “We understand the importance of providing tasty, nutritious and well-balanced seasonal menus for older people. We pride ourselves on supporting individuals to dine with dignity; and we are passionate about catering for different dietary requirements and appetites as well as helping residents to continue to enjoy their favourite dishes and traditions around food.

“By supporting residents to eat and drink well, and helping them to overcome any challenges along the way that may prevent this, we can boost their health – even relieving aches and pains and increasing mental wellbeing. We take into consideration every aspect of the dining experience to ensure it is enjoyable, sociable and fun for residents; and, importantly, that residents maintain their independence and love of food.

“By hosting a free event on the subject, we can provide the people of Stowmarket with expert advice, inspiration and the opportunity to find out more about the importance of healthy eating in later life.”
