Residents at Ferndown Manor have fun in the sun

Home news

Residents at Ferndown Manor joined the local community for a fun-filled day in the sun at a local community event.

Residents and team members from Ferndown Manor visited Ferndown’s Fete on the Field event in the grounds of King George V playing fields.

As well as watching the live musical entertainment in the sunshine, residents also had the opportunity to browse the many stalls on offer. The classic car show also proved to be a hit with residents who enjoyed seeing the ins and outs of the different motors on display and even reminisced about their first cars.

Team members from Ferndown Manor also took part in the inaugural John Thornton Obstacle Pram Race to raise money for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation where they came in third place. Head of maintenance at Ferndown Manor, Kevin Diaper, was joined by members of the 17th Bournemouth Scout Group who helped build Team Ferndown Manor's pram.

Janet Lewis, home manager at Ferndown Manor, said: “We had a wonderful day at Ferndown Fete on the Field and the residents absolutely loved seeing the collection of classic cars from their childhood. Reconnecting with familiar objects, such as cars, can prove to be a valuable reminiscence activity for those living with dementia.

“We’d like to thank the 17th Bournemouth Scout Group who helped us create our own form of transportation for the inaugural pram race, the team members had a fantastic time taking part and raising money for a great cause – it was fantastic having the residents there to cheer them on.”
