Mildenhall Lodge takes a walk on the wild side

Home news

Residents from Mildenhall Lodge took a walk on the wild side when they were given the opportunity to get up close and personal to a host of furry friends.

The team at the care home invited mobile petting zoo, Zoo-Tastic, to lead a ‘show and tell’ workshop with residents.

An owl, rabbit and a guinea pig were among the animals presented to residents.

Zoo-Tastic offer a hands-on zoo experience providing a stimulating and therapeutic activity for people of all ages.

Home manager, Katy Hughes at Mildenhall Lodge, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents and, as so many have a keen interest in nature and wildlife, we invited Zoo-Tastic along to provide a fun animal therapy session.

“It proved to be a real success and you could see from residents’ reactions just how much they enjoyed interacting with the different animals.  Not only did the workshop fit really well with our ‘activity based care’ approach here at Mildenhall Lodge, it was also fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces, and we believe it had real therapeutic benefits for residents – especially those living with dementia.”
