Sandfields takes a walk on the wild side

Home news

Residents at Sandfields care home took a walk on the wild side when they were given the opportunity to get up close and personal with some furry friends.

The team at the care home in Cheltenham invited two alpacas, Rosie and Alice, to lead a ‘meet and greet’ with residents.

The alpacas took a tour of the gardens and residents were encouraged to pet and interact with them.

This is the first time Cotswolds Alpacas has organised a visit to a care home. The company breeds alpacas and uses the fleeces to produce hand dyed yarn, which is used to produce rugs and other items for the home.

Deanna Lane, home manager at Sandfields, said: “We are always looking to plan interesting and exciting activities for residents and, as so many have a keen interest in nature and wildlife, we invited Cotswold Alpacas along to provide a fun afternoon with the furry duo.

“It proved to be a real success, and you could see from residents’ reactions just how much they enjoyed interacting with Rosie and Alice. Not only did the workshop fit really well with our activity based care approach here at Sandfields, it was also fantastic to see the smiles on everyone’s faces, especially as it can have real therapeutic benefits for residents – particularly those living with dementia.”
