Local hero helps open Highmarket House

Home news

The people of Banbury were invited to celebrate the grand launch of the town’s newest care home, opened by local hero, Peter Turner MBE, and his great-granddaughter Lucy McNally.

On Thursday 9th November, the local community enjoyed a host of entertainment at Highmarket House at North Bar Place, as part of its opening celebrations.

The team were joined by local fundraiser and founder of the Parkinson’s Fellowship in Banbury, Peter Turner MBE, and his great-grandddaughter Lucy who cut the ribbon and officially opened the care home.

To mark the opening, the team at Highmarket House donated £250 to the Parkinson’s Fellowship to help people living with Parkinson’s in the local community to continue to live fulfilled lives by going on holidays, trips and outings.

There were plenty of fun activities on offer for all the family, including a cupcake decorating contest in the ground floor restaurant, flower arranging in the hobby room, and origami sessions in the first-floor restaurant.

Guests also had the opportunity to try the ‘interactive wall’ in the cinema. The ‘interactive wall’ displays a mirror image of the user while projecting dynamic moving images that they can interact with. It helps to aid motor skill development and coordination, while also acting as a therapeutic tool to calm or stimulate.

Visitors tucked into canapés specially prepared by head chef, Mark Roberts, and there was musical entertainment throughout the day provided by string quartet, Ariella Strings, as well as entertainment from silhouette artist, Steve Price.

Those who attended also had the chance to meet the team at the luxury care home, as well as take a tour of the care home.

Highmarket House home manager, Julia Hedley, said: “We were delighted to welcome Peter and Lucy to officially open the home and mark this important milestone. We would also like to thank everyone who helped to make this such a special day.

“The residents and their families are at the heart of everything we do, including the launch celebrations, and it was an enjoyable day for all. It was fantastic to welcome so many local people and special guests to Highmarket House. Our grand launch really was a day to remember.”
