A couple at Britten Court have been sharing their pearls of wisdom in celebration of the royal platinum wedding anniversary.
Eric and Betty Halls, aged 90 and 91, have been featured in a commemorative video in which they talk about their own love story, to mark the Queen and Prince Phillip’s marriage milestone.
The Lowestoft couple met in 1942 when Eric saw Betty in a yellow spotted dress when working in a tailors, and the couple married three years later. When asked about the secret to a long and happy marriage, Eric said: “I’ve always known there’s only ever been one boss in our relationship – and it’s not me!”
Created by Care UK, the video includes residents from care homes across the country reminiscing about loved ones both past and present. From sharing their first dates to the moment they walked down the aisle, the selection of memories and stories have been captured to celebrate companionship and the some of the country’s great love stories.
Chloe Swarbrick, home manager at Britten Court, said: “We were delighted when Eric and Betty were asked to feature in this commemorative video as they, along with many residents here at the home, often speak fondly about how they met their other halves, their wedding day and their children – and it’s always so lovely to hear.
“We regularly celebrate big anniversaries here at Britten Court and understand the importance of maintaining relationships and celebrating life’s milestones.
“Celebrating this occasion has been a really valuable reminiscence activity for residents – particularly those living with dementia. It’s been great for residents to share their life experiences and memories of their loved ones.”
