Sandfields saddle-up for miniature ponies visit

Home news

Residents at Sandfields had a special visit from some miniature friends when Lollipop Ponies visited the care home.

The friendly Shetland ponies created a stir when they trotted into Sandfields.

The ponies were taken on a tour of the home, visiting residents’ rooms to ensure everyone had the opportunity to pet and stroke the affectionate animals.

Deanna Lane, home manager at Sandfields, said: “It was wonderful to see the smiles on everyone’s faces when the miniature ponies arrived at Sandfields. They created rather a lot of excitement among the residents and Care UK team.

“One of our residents, Mary Plucknett, was particularly thrilled to meet the ponies. She is blind and deaf but was positively beaming as she felt the smooth hair of the pony.”

“Petting animals and being in their company has proven therapeutic benefits, particularly for those living with dementia, and you could see from the residents’ reactions just how engaged they were when given the opportunity to get so close to such lovely animals.”
