Heather View welcomed the local community to celebrate the opening of the new purpose-built sensory room and meet new home manger, Natasha King.
Guests were invited to join the official opening of the homes new sensory room, which combines gentle light, movement, music and tactile objects that will all provide stimulation for those living with dementia. The sensory room has been created using soft lighting and incorporates the sounds such as ocean ripple and bird song to bring nature inside the home. These surroundings, coupled with tactile objects and sensory smells, provides a space of relaxation for residents.
The event also gave visitors the opportunity to get to know Natasha, who took over as home manager at Heather View in late 2017, as well as taking a closer look at the care home and its facilities. Natasha has a wealth of experience having worked in the care sector for 25 years and was nominated for Team Leader of the Year in the 2013 Care UK Residential Care Services Awards.
Natasha said: “We were delighted to welcome the local community to help us celebrate the opening of the new sensory room. The stimulation provided by these settings can be incredibly beneficial for those living with dementia, and many of our residents are excited to be able to use the space.
“At Heather View, we’re always looking to find ways of connecting with the local community. The event was a great opportunity to welcome the relatives of the residents and our neighbours to the home, and we look forward to welcoming back in the future.”
