Rhyming fun a hit at Manor Lodge

Home news

It was time to rhyme at Manor Lodge, as it opened its doors to the local community to celebrate World Poetry Day.

Residents spent the day reading, writing and sharing some of their favourite poems to mark the event.

The team invited students from Moulsham Sixth Form and St John Payne School to join in the celebrations and share some of their favourite poems with the residents. The team also shared poems written by Keith Logan, the son of Manor Lodge resident, Daisy Logan.

Home manager, Juliana Miles, said: “We had an excellent day celebrating World Poetry Day. Reading, writing and listening to poetry is an activity enjoyed by all of the residents here at Manor Lodge, and we had a delightful time celebrating the occasion with Moulsham Sixth Form. Not only is poetry calming for those living with dementia, but it can also act as a great reminiscence activity as, for many residents, hearing lyrics and poetry can evoke fond memories from the past.

“The residents really enjoyed sharing poems from their past with friends and family, as well as putting pen to paper to write their own rhymes. We would like to say a big thank you to everyone who joined us in making it such a brilliant day!”
