Councillor and a local hero officially open Pear Tree Court

Age Concern and the WI were also on hand to get creative with guests and residents, and local historian, John Merrell, provided a fascinating talk on the history of Horndean. 

Visitors enjoyed live entertainment throughout the day, from a brass band and a 1940s singer, as well as a special performance from one of the resident’s favourite pianists. 

Those who attended the event also had the chance to meet the team at Pear Tree Court and take a tour of the new care home, as well as enjoy a selection of tasty treats.

Pear Tree Court home manager, Raymond Arnold, said: “We were delighted to welcome Councillor Lynn Evans and Allen Parton from Hounds for Heroes to officially open the home and mark this important milestone. We would also like to thank Age Concern and the WI, as well as those from the local community, who helped to make this such a special day. 

“The residents had a fantastic time celebrating, and enjoyed preparing for the event by helping to set up the arts and crafts areas and decorating the home, as part of our Activity Based Care approach at Pear Tree Court. Having the animals visit the home was a brilliant addition to the day, and being able to pet and interact with so many different four-legged friends really put a smile on the residents’ faces. After such a successful event, we are already looking forward to our next celebration!”
