Falls experts on hand at Elizabeth Lodge

Home news

Elizabeth Lodge is holding a free event to provide information about preventing falls among older people.

On the 12th April, from 2pm-5pm, Elizabeth Lodge is welcoming an expert to give advice to the community. Carol Sharp, community bone health & prevention of fractures clinician and Anna Kourdoullou from iCan will be visiting the home to offer guidance and information on preventing falls and maintaining independence.

As well as discussing the common causes of slips and trips, Carol Sharp, will also be on hand to provide expert advice on how to create safer environments for older people, as well as outlining the activities and exercises that relatives can implement to help improve their loved ones’ balance.

Visitors can also look forward to a free Tai Chi session led by professional instructor Christina Williams which they are welcome to join if they wish.

After the event there will be a Q&A session, and those who attend will also have the opportunity to meet the team at Elizabeth Lodge and take a tour of the care home.

Elizabeth Lodge home manager, Michelle Sampang, said: “Here at Elizabeth Lodge, we seek to provide in-depth advice to people in the local community on topics relating to our work. Falls prevention is very important to the team, and to the wellbeing of the residents, as accidental falls can occasionally lead to further health issues.

“It is imperative we create a safe environment for older people in the community and ensure that family and friends have the correct information to prevent accidents. We are looking forward to welcoming local people to Elizabeth Lodge for what promises to be another interesting and inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”
