The team at Silversprings welcomed the people of Thorrington to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.
Residents and visitors raised a glass to the Queen on her 92nd birthday, and enjoyed a special afternoon cream tea and live entertainment from local singer, Rosie Sims. They were also joined by students from Colchester Institute, who had been learning some of the residents’ favourite songs, including White Cliffs of Dover, which everyone enjoyed singing along to.
Guests also had the opportunity to make some new four-legged friends, with an extra special visit from Blackwater Pygmy Goats who bought a selection of friendly goats and chicks with them for the residents to meet.
Donna Cousins, home manager at Silversprings, said: “We had a fantastic day celebrating Care Home Open Day here at Silversprings. The residents all really enjoyed the activities – particularly meeting the goats! It was fantastic to see so many of our neighbours come along for the party.
