The team invited students from Fireplace Dance Theatre and The Gilberd School for a day of music, dance and physical activities as part of a new project to bring generations together through dance.
Fireplace Dance Theatre’s aim is to create performances that are thought-provoking, inspiring and engaging. As part of its latest project, the group worked in partnership with The Gilberd School and Active Essex, to encourage residents at Silversprings to get moving with a day of dance-related activities.
The day included a dance performance from The Gilberd School and an inspiration session which involved creative items such as ribbons, flowers and musical instruments. There was also an opportunity for the residents to share memories of dancing with their visitors.
Donna Cousins, home manager, at Silversprings said: “Here at Silversprings, activity based care is at the heart of everything we do and we regularly hold dancing events for the residents. Dance not only brings people together in a fun environment, but it is also a brilliant form of exercise and has positive physical and mental benefits – particularly for those living with dementia.
“I would like to say a huge thank you on behalf of the team and residents here at the home to Fireplace Dance Theatre and The Gilberd School for their wonderful performances and a brilliant day of song and dance. We look forward to donning our dancing shoes again in the near future and would love to welcome the girls back to Silversprings!”
