Care home residents poised to celebrate Harry and Meghan’s wedding

Company news

Everyone loves a wedding and residents at many of Care UK’s homes are looking forward to marking the upcoming royal marriage in style.

Over 20 Care UK care homes will be taking part in royal festivities – from Catherine Court in Ascot, to Cairdean House in Edinburgh – the teams are pulling out all the stops to mark the royal occasion. Homes will be showing a live screening of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, and residents have been busy creating Union Jack bunting to decorate the homes.

Many of the residents and team members at the homes, including Charlotte House in Isleworth, are also looking forward to welcoming the local community to join in the fun. Heather View in Crowborough, Snowdrop House in Ware, and Skylark House in Horsham are all inviting their neighbours along to royal-inspired street parties to celebrate. In Suffolk, Mildenhall Lodge is hosting a tea party, complete with cucumber sandwiches and scones, as well as screening the FA cup final for the football fans.

For many residents, the royal wedding will evoke fond memories from their own nuptial celebrations. Residents at Whitebourne in Surrey will be creating a beautiful scrapbook of their own wedding photos, and the day will be particularly special for St. Vincent’s married residents, Luigi and Maria, who will be renewing their wedding vows in the home’s garden, followed by champagne and strawberries to celebrate.

The care teams have also organised live entertainment to get everyone in the party spirit. Residents at Weald Heights in Sevenoaks are looking forward to a special musical performance from a local musician, and a performance group will keep guests entertained at Cumberland in Mitcham, with a wedding-inspired show. In Worcester, residents of Perry Manor will be joining in the fun as they welcome a local singer for an afternoon of live music, and residents at Cedrus House in Suffolk are looking forward to having a sing-along with local entertainer, Jackie Raven, who will be performing everyone’s favourite hits.  No doubt the occasion will also prompt reminiscing about how residents have celebrated other royal weddings over the years.

As well as live entertainment, residents are getting their creative juices flowing ahead of the occasion. At Whitebourne in Surrey, not only are residents creating a wedding photos scrapbook, they will also be making homemade invitations, wedding hats and ties, and baking a delicious wedding cake in honour of the couple. In Copthorne, Francis Court the team at has organised a morning of arts and crafts, when residents and guests will be able to design their own dream wedding dresses and suits.

Local people are invited to join the celebrations by joining in with the activities raising a glass to the happy couple.
