Home news

Ambleside has received a glowing report following an unannounced formal visit by a national consumer champion for health and social care.

Healthwatch Warwickshirecarried outan “Enter and View” visit to see and hear local people's experiences of the services provided at Ambleside. The recommendation to come out of this visit being to ‘keep up the good work’.

All Healthwatch visits include a report, which provides feedback using a ‘traffic light’ system, where homes are given ratings of ‘green’, ‘amber’,or ‘red’. Ambleside was given the top rating of green, meaning at least 80 per cent of observations were positive in all seventeen areas of observation, including: cleanliness, facilities, privacy anddignity, maintenance, and kitchen facilities.

A group of six Healthwatch authorised representatives met with Clare Mudge, home manager at Ambleside,to make observations on the condition of the home, as well as observing and getting views from team members, residents and visitors carrying out their daily activities. The home was praised for being well maintained, light, airy and decorated empathetically with respect to residents living with dementia.

Activities at the home were recorded, including group sessions for arts and crafts, puzzles, quizzes and painting. Other activities taking place throughout the year include barbecues, picnics, gardening clubs and concert performances four times a year from a local school. Films are regularly shown in the home’s cinema, and the report noted, “There is a large, well maintained pleasant garden.”

One resident was quoted as saying, “After two other homes, I finally found one I am happy living in”.The Healthwatch team also had the opportunity to speak to relatives, with one telling them, “I needed some respite care for dad; he liked it so he stayed.”

Clare Mudge, home manager at Ambleside, said: “I am extremely proud of our team and the homely, supportive and caring environment that we work really hard to provide for residents and their loved ones. Positive reports such as this are a reflection of the team’s dedication, and we’re delighted to have been given a ‘green’rating.”
