Chandler Court shows support for local charity’s ‘Men in Sheds’ scheme

Home news

Chandler Court is helping to bring together elderly men in the community by pledging its support for Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest’s ‘Men in Sheds’ group.

Residents and team members at Chandler Court were delighted to become one of the scheme’s official partners – by sponsoring a ‘Shed Share’.

‘Men in Sheds’ is an initiative set up locally by Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest, which seeks to provide a support network for older men. Members of the group have access to a shared ‘shed’ workshop space where they can take part in woodwork sessions and build important friendships with their peers.

To help ensure that the group can continue, this year the charity has launched its Shed Share scheme, which allows local businesses and members of the community to show their support by sponsoring the group.

Chandler Court was presented with its Shed Share certificate during a presentation ceremony at Bromsgrove College, after it became an official partner of the scheme.

Residents at the care home are looking forward to welcoming the scheme members – known as ‘shedders’ – into the home in the near future for workshop sessions, and to meet the residents.

Jo Hughes, marketing executive at Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest, said: “We are thrilled to be sponsored by Chandler Court. Our partners are invaluable to us as they help us raise funds to provide so many older men within the community with the opportunity to make friends, continue hobbies and build new skills. We would like to say a big thank you to our friends at Chandler Court – we are already looking forward to visiting the home soon!”

Joanne Gill, home managerat Chandler Court, added: “Building strong links with the local community is really important to us at Chandler Court, and what better way to do so than supporting Age UK Bromsgrove, Redditch & Wyre Forest’s fantastic ‘Men in Sheds’ scheme. Sharing a hobby, such as woodwork, provides a common interest for many older people, and allows new connections and friendships to grow.

“We are incredibly proud to receive our ‘Shed Share’ certificate and look forward to members of the ‘Men in Sheds’ group paying us a visit Chandler Court.”
