The only way is Essex at Silverspring's summer celebrations

Silversprings is inviting the local community to join in with a day of fun activities, delicious food and live entertainment, for a special celebration dedicated to the county of Essex. 

On Thursday 9th August, from 11am-3pm, local people are invited to drop into the home to celebrate a day dedicated to the county and the people who make it a special place to live.  

Residents and care teams from ten other nearby care homes will be in attendance on the day. Residents and visitors will be able to take part in a fun sports tournament with competitions including, an egg and spoon race, a hoopla competition and a wheelchair race. 

There will also be the opportunity for visitors to learn more about how Essex came to be the place it is today, with displays from Colchester Castle Museum and a World War Two tent.  

What’s more, Tiptree Jam Factory will be hosting a talk on their local preserves, and there will be the opportunity for visitors to make some new four-legged friends as Blackwater Pygmy Goats will be joining the celebrations. 

Later, the care home’s chefs will prepare a delicious barbecue and afternoon tea while residents and visitors enjoy musical entertainment from the Pearly King and Queen. 

Donna Cousins, home manager at Silversprings, said: “Our Essex Day event is a great opportunity to invite the local community to join us for a day of family-friendly fun for all ages. There is a real buzz around the care home already, with preparations now well underway.

“We are part of a strong community here at Silversprings, not only with local people and organisations, but as a wider care home network with our neighboring Care UK homes. Days like this are a great way of bringing us all together for fun, laughter and to celebrate all that our wonderful county has to offer, with the people who make it the place it is.

Silversprings will also be opening its doors to the local community from 2pm-5pm on Saturday 11thAugust for its annual summer fete.
