A celebration of ‘all things Essex’ at Silversprings

Home news

Silversprings hosted summer celebrations dedicated to the county of Essex, and was joined by 10 care homes and the local community.

Local people were invited to Silversprings to celebrate the county, and the individuals who make Essex such a special place to live. Over 100 residents from nearby Care UK care homes also attended the celebrations.

The day was full of joy and excitement, with residents and visitors participating in a fun sports tournament which included, an egg and spoon race, a tug of war and a penalty shoot out.

People had the chance to make some new four-legged friends when Blackwater Pygmy Goats arrived to join in with the celebrations. For those interested in learning about Essex’s history, there were displays from Colchester Castle Museum and a World War Two tent.

The celebrations also included delicious food and sweet treats, with Tiptree Jam Factory hosting a talk on its local preserves, and the care home’s chefs prepared a tasty barbecue and afternoon tea.

Musical entertainment for the day was provided by the Pearly King and Queen who got the audience singing along to some much loved classics.

Donna Cousins, home manager at Silversprings, said: “Our Essex Day was a brilliant way to bring together Silversprings’ residents, residents from other care homes and the local community. There was laughter and smiles all around as everyone enjoyed the entertainment in the sunshine.

“It’s important to us here at Silversprings, that the residents are able to build relationships with local people, and it’s clear to see how much they benefit from events like these.

“I’d like to thank everyone for joining us in making it so special, and we hope everyone who shared the day with us enjoyed it as much as we did.”
