Celebrations as VIP guest launches art studio at Appleby House

The team at Appleby House opened the doors to the care home on Longmead Road and welcome the visitors and the local community to take a look around their new art studio, which contains a host of materials for residents to use.

To mark the launch of the art studio, the home was joined by the Mayor of Epsom and Ewell, Councillor Neil Dallen, Care UK Chief Executive, Mike Parish, and students from Epsom Primary School. Visitors and residents alike enjoyed getting creative at an intergenerational art session, which was hosted by art therapy session group,Creative Minds.

During the event, visitors and residents were able to explore the art studio and admire the artwork displayed.

Appleby House is thought to be the first care home with its own artist-in-residence, Kim Whelton from Creative Minds, who helps inspire creativity within the home and uses art therapy to engage the residents living with dementia.

Shona Bradbury, home manager at Appleby House, said: “The residents and team at Appleby House are incredibly proud of our art studio, and we were thrilled to be joined by the local community at our launch event. We are passionate about the importance of encouraging people living with dementia to create art, and express their emotions through a creative outlet.

“We would like to say a big thank you to the CouncillorNeil Dallen, Mike Parish, and the students from Epsom Primary Schoolfor joining us at the launch of our new art studio. We would also like to thank Creative Minds and the local community for making the event such a success.”
