Mills Meadow goes down under for arty open day

Home news

There were celebrations all round when the team at Mills Meadow invited the local community in for a day of art-themed fun and games.

Mills Meadow goes down under for arty open day

The team at Mills Meadow welcomed local people to enjoy Care Home Open Day, a countrywide initiative set up to develop lasting relationships between care homes and local communities, and to dispel common myths about care home life.

This year’s theme celebrated the role of arts within care, which is important in encouraging residents’ self-expression, and helps to create meaningful experiences.

Residents and visitors enjoyed an Australian themed art party with Aboriginal art making and a live performance from a didgeridoo player. Visitors were also treated to a delicious barbecue.

As part of a nationwide competition for all Care UK homes, Mills Meadowdeveloped a work of art in the lead up to the open day, which was showcased at the event.

Rebecca Calver, deputy home manager at Mills Meadow, said: “Care Home Open Day is a wonderful opportunity for our home to connect with the local community and show what it’s really like to live in a care home. We all had a brilliant time welcoming people from Framlingham into Mills Meadow.

“The residents are enjoyed showcasing their artistic skills to the visitors and enjoyed taking part in our Australian-inspired celebration. We can’t wait to invite everyone back very soon.”
