Brook Court hosts careers insights event

Brook Court has hosted an ‘Insight into Care’ event to provide local students and job hunters with valuable insight into a career in the care sector.

The event was run at Brook Court care home, on Oldnall Road, in conjunction with the Kidderminster Jobcentre and off the back of a commitment to supporting the local recruitment

drive of The Rt Hon Sajid Javid MP. Earlier this year, the Brook Court team attended Mr Javid’s popular Bromsgrove Jobs Fair, which prompted the dedicated local event for the

care sector.

The ‘Insight into Care’ event was designed to offer a wealth of information on the various roles available across the sector, together with the specific skills, qualifications and attributes required for these roles.

Home manager at Brook Court, Gill Pratt, said: “It was a privilege to host this event for the local community – for people starting out on their employment journey, plus those looking to make a change of career. Not only did those attending talk directly to individuals already enjoying a career in our sector, but they also took a tour to get a feel of state-of-the-art care home facilities, whilst also meeting residents.

“The event was very well received by those who attended and we’re working with the Kidderminster Jobcentre placement team to host further events in the future. No two days are the same in care; one day we might be developing daily activities and events to ensure residents are supported in their wish to maintain a happy and fulfilling life; the next we’re delivering specialist dementia care. We hope that we’ve been able to share our passion for a role that is so varied and rewarding.”

Steve Lester, employer advisor at Kidderminster Jobcentre said: “The Insight into Care Event proved a great success as it enabled jobseekers who were unsure if healthcare was the right career path for them, to experience the life of a healthcare professional by meeting the Care UK team and residents.

“Feedback from the participants was that the event was very inspiring and that they had all learned something new, regarding the skills and attributes that are required to undertake a career in healthcare.”
