Two care homes in Suffolk are celebrating after being shortlisted in the Suffolk Care Awards.
Care UK’s Cedrus House, in Stowmarket, has been shortlisted for the ‘Excellent Person Centred Care at End of Life’, while Mills Meadow, in Framlingham, has been nominated for the ‘Excellent Stimulating Environments’ category.
The regional awards, which recognise those delivering quality care services, aim to reward excellence and shine a light on the work that individuals and care providers undertake.
The care team at Cedrus House have been recognised for the high quality of their end of life care, and were recently awarded an accreditation by St Elizabeth Hospice following a supported self-improvement programme of professional, educational and development training.
The Mills Meadow team have been recognised for their dedication to providing activities for residents and enabling them to lead fulfilled lives. As well as organising regular activities, including a weekly day out, a textiles club and music therapy, residents are given as much freedom as possible to go out alone, encouraging them to maintain their independence.
Michelle Webster, home manager at Cedrus House, commented: “We are delighted to have been shortlisted in the ‘Excellent Person Centred Care at End of Life’ category for this year’s Suffolk Care Awards.
“When someone is approaching the end of their life, they often want to spend their final days in the place they call home. If that is our care home, then we want to ensure we are doing everything in our power to ensure residents, and their families have peace of mind that the best possible care will be provided.
Rebecca Calver, deputy home manager at Mills Meadow, said: “We are thrilled to have been shortlisted in the ‘Excellent Stimulating Environments’ category for this year’s Suffolk Care Awards.
“Here at Mills Meadow, we are very proud of the wonderful environment we have created, and strive to ensure that residents’ continue to live enjoyable, fulfilled lives.
“The team is always organising new activities, many of which involve local groups. We understand the importance of creating partnerships with the local community and strive to connect residents with our neighbours by hosting clubs and events at the home. We’d like to wish good luck to everyone who has made the finals, we’re looking forward to the awards ceremony and have our fingers crossed!”
