Wheely nice surprise for Stroud care home Scarlet House

Home news

A care home in Stroud enjoyed a surprise visit from a cyclist on a 580-mile charity ride.

Care UK’s Scarlet House in Stroud, recently welcomed keen cyclist and charity fundraiser, David Merrett, who is pedaling from Land’s End to John O’Groats in aid of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. He was joined by friend and fellow cyclist, Kevin House, who is raising funds for the Guide Dogs for the Blind.

The care home on Westward Road became a very special pit stop for David and Kevin as they took a well-earned break to visit David’s sister, Serena, a resident at Scarlet House, who has lived with multiple sclerosis for many years.

Home manager at Scarlet House, Kate Stevens, said: “We were delighted to welcome David and Kevin for a well-deserved rest stop, as they scale the length of the country to raise money for a charity close to David’s heart.

“It was such a surprise for Serena, who thoroughly enjoyed seeing her brother during his epic trip in the saddle.

“It is a great achievement, and on behalf of residents and the rest of the team here at Scarlet House, we’d like to wish David and Kevin the very best of luck with their onward journey.”

David was given a cheery send-off by his sister, who was joined by fellow Scarlet House residents and team members, after taking a moment to pose for a memorable photo.
