How to prevent slips and trips – Cheltenham care home hosts free advice event

Home news

A care home in Cheltenham is inviting local people to a free event where they can find out more about preventing falls among older people.

The popular event will be hosted at Care UK’s Sandfields, on St George’s Road, on Wednesday 20th November. There will be two sessions, from 10am-12pm, and from 2pm-4pm, where an  expert will be on hand to give advice to the community at the free talk.

Specialist physiotherapist, Kerrie Hodges, from Gloucestershire NHS Foundation Trust, will be visiting the home to discuss common causes of slips and trips, as well as providing guidance on how to create safer environments for older people. She will also provide activities and exercises that improve balance and reduce the risk of falls.

After the event there will be a helpful Q&A session, and those who attend will also have the opportunity to meet the team at Sandfields and take a tour of the care home.

Emma Mackenzie-Bedford, home manager at Sandfields, explains: “Here at Sandfields, we understand the importance of falls prevention and the impact this has on the wellbeing of older people. We want to ensure that the local community has all the advice and guidance they need to improve their strength and balance and reduce their risk of having a fall, as accidental falls can occasionally lead to further health issues.

“It is imperative that we create a safe environment for older people in Cheltenham, and ensure that family and friends have the correct information to prevent accidents. We are looking forward to welcoming local people to Sandfields for what promises to be another interesting and inspiring afternoon of information and guidance.”
