The Residential Care Services (RCS) Stars awards recognise individual and team excellence at more than 120 care homes nationwide across Care UK.

The team at Care UK’s Cheviot Court, on Horsley Hill Square, was presented with the coveted Home of the Year award because of the exceptional range of activities open to residents, particularly those living with dementia. These sessions include pampering, yoga and meditation workshops to aid relaxation and promote a healthy, active lifestyle.

The panel of judges praised the Cheviot Court team for going above and beyond to ensure residents are valued, heard and purposeful, while maintaining a strong ethos of dignity and respect. The residents expressed a wish to be more involved in daily tasks in the home, and so the team created occupation areas, and as a result residents have a strong sense of purpose.

Louise Damms, home manager at Cheviot Court, said: “I’m very proud of everyone at Cheviot Court, this a huge achievement.

“The team works incredibly hard planning and co-ordinating activities that residents will benefit from and enjoy. Residents are involved in every aspect of life at Cheviot Court, which has created a strong sense of community among team members and residents, so it was lovely to be recognised for the team’s hard work and dedication – to win Home of the Year is incredible.

“I would like to thank each and every member of the team – everyone contributed to winning this award, well done!”

Cheviot Court provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own music area and a host of different lounges, with plenty of space both indoors and out for relaxation and recreation.
