TRIPLE award win for Epsom care home

Home news

A care home in Epsom is celebrating after taking the top spot at three awards ceremonies.

Care UK’s Appleby House, on Longmead Road, has won ‘South Care Home of the Year’ in the Caring UK Awards, hard-working apprentice, Zoe Couchman, took home the ‘Care Apprentice’ award in the National Care Awards, and home manager, Shona Bradbury, scooped the ‘Excellence in Dementia Care’ at the Surrey Care Awards.

The Caring UK Awards celebrate excellence throughout the care industry, while the National Care Awards are the longest established annual awards and are organised by social care’s leading publication, Caring Times. Finally, the Surrey Care Awards, celebrate exceptional contributions made by individuals and teams across Surrey.

The home fought off tough competition to win ‘South Care Home of the Year’ with team members praised for their firm focus on putting residents at the heart of everything that takes place at Appleby House. The home is rated ‘Outstanding’ by the CQC, and is a place where residents, relatives and colleagues are all members of the ‘Appleby family’, ensuring that everyone knows each other on a personal level.

Apprentice Zoe Couchman, who has been working at the home for one year, took home the ‘Care Apprentice’ award. Judges praised Zoe for always going above and beyond – getting involved with the activities, as well as chatting to residents, with one resident described as ‘flourishing’ due to Zoe’s one-to-one attention. They commented that her passion is evident in everything that she does.

The third accolade was the ‘Excellence in Dementia Care’ award, which was presented to home manager, Shona Bradbury, at the Surrey Care Awards. Shona works tirelessly to ensure residents living with dementia are cared for with respect and dignity, while ensuring they live a fulfilling life.

Shona Bradbury, home manager at Appleby House, says: “We are so thrilled to have won these three amazing awards, the whole team are celebrating this brilliant success. I’d like to say a special thank you to the team at Appleby House for making this possible.

“Fulfilling lives is the ethos at the home, and I’m so honoured our efforts have been recognised in this way. A special well done to Zoe, who has come on leaps and bounds since joining us, she makes residents and team members smile every day, and we’d be lost without her.

“We are also over the moon to be named ‘South Care Home of the Year’, it really is such an honour, especially as we were up against some tough competition. I think we’re going to need a bigger shelf to put all these awards on!”

Appleby House has been designed to provide residential dementia care.
