Thorrington care home hosts dementia advice event for family carers

Home news

A care home in Thorrington is inviting the local community to a free event for families caring for those living with dementia.

On Thursday 20th February, from 2pm-4pm, Care UK’s Silversprings, on Tenpenny Hill, will open its doors for the ‘Introduction to Admiral Nursing: Coping With Dementia’ event.

Admiral specialist dementia nurse, Anna Coupe-Harris, from The Kings Wood Centre, will be on hand to share insights into how to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia, as well focusing on the wellbeing of the carer.

Anna will also discuss how Admiral nurses support best practice, working collaboratively with families of those living with dementia to share expertise, support and the skills needed to care for a loved one.

There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, and positive approaches to living with the condition.

After the event there will be a Q&A session and an opportunity to meet other carers in the community and share experiences, as well as the chance to meet the friendly team at Silversprings and take a closer look at the care home.

Home manager, Donna Cousins, said: “Here at Silversprings, we strongly believe professional knowledge, insight and shared experiences can make a real difference to the everyday lives of those looking after a loved one living with dementia.

“Admiral nurses are uniquely placed to provide expert advice for families caring for a loved one living with dementia so we are delighted Anna can join us and I hope that people in the community will take the opportunity to learn more about the support available to them.”

Silversprings has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and specialist dementia care, as well as short-term respite.
