People of Shinfield invited to take first look at new multi-million pound care home

People of Shinfield invited to take first look at new multi-million pound care homeA new care home in Shinfield is inviting the local community to celebrate its completion with an exclusive first look inside the purpose-built facilities.

Care UK’s Parsons Grange, on Westall Street, is opening its doors on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th July to give local people the opportunity to take a closer look at the brand-new care home before it welcomes the first residents in August.

Members of the public are invited to book an appointment to take a tour around the completed care home, which will provide care for up to 68 older people when it opens in August 2020. There will also be an opportunity to meet the team at Parsons Grange, including home manager, Ruth Halls, and customer relations manager, Shelby Ratcliffe.

A nurse for over 30 years, before working her way up to home manager, Ruth joined Care UK in 2018 to manage Buchanan Court, in Harrow. Joining Parsons Grange while it was still being built, she recruited the new team herself, based on their passion for care and commitment to enable residents to lead fulfilling lives.

Shelby has worked in the healthcare sector for five years, starting as a care assistant before working her way up to regional director. Having the experience and knowledge of what it takes to deliver outstanding care, she truly appreciates the importance of understanding residents’ needs to live a fulfilling life at Parsons Grange.

Both Ruth and Shelby described the morning as their favourite part of the day, as it’s the best time to catch up with the rest of the team and start the day in the right way.

Ruth said: “It’s been a challenging few months for the community, but I know the team at Parsons Grange is looking forward to welcoming the first residents to the home next month. We have a great team in place, and we are really proud of the environment that has been created. Every last detail here has been considered to create a high-quality, luxury care home which will enable residents to live safe, active and fulfilled lives.

“We’ve taken all the necessary steps to ensure our open days will be as safe as possible, by offering appointments, and allowing plenty of space between booking slots so the home can be cleaned throughout the day and following the social distancing guidelines. We’re looking forward to showing visitors what life will be like at Parsons Grange, including the fantastic activities that will be on offer, while giving them an opportunity to meet our friendly team.”

The care home has officially been named ‘Parsons Grange’ after Louisa Parsons, a nurse trained by Florence Nightingale. Decorated for her service in the British Army, she also founded the University of Maryland School of Nursing, before moving back to England and spending the latter part of her life in Shinfield.

Designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, the new care home will incorporate space for hobby and leisure activities. The layout of the building will be configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close knit communities.
