‘Baking’ the world a better place - Framlingham care home heroes crownedResidents and colleagues at a care home in Framlingham has praised team members for their dedication, hard work and passion throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Sacha Cox, head chef, and Pauline Mortimer, day centre manager at Care UK’s Mills Meadow on Fore Street, have been named as ‘Care UK Heroes’ for going above and beyond for colleagues, residents and the local community in recent months.

The nominations were shared as part of a nationwide search for Care UK Heroes throughout its 122 care homes. From outstanding colleagues, to residents who have ensured morale remains high, this competition aims to shine a light on these exceptional people.

In addition to her duties as head chef, Sacha has been making home-made sweets and jelly shots to help residents hydrated, as well as cancelling her annual leave to provide extra support for the rest of her team. Dedicated to her role, Sacha has even been baking cakes to be delivered with food packages to local vulnerable people living in Framlingham.

Pauline Mortimer, day centre manager at the Mills Meadow Day Club, has also been named as a Care UK Hero, for her unwavering efforts to keep in touch with members of the day club while it is closed. Joining the Mills Meadow care home team for the last few months, Pauline has supported the management team by overseeing and mentoring colleagues, helped to organise activities for residents as well as ensuring her day club clients have activities to do at home.

Their commitment to supporting not only residents and team members, but the wider community, is amazing, and we are very proud to have them as part of the Mills Meadow family.

“From our nurses and lifestyle coordinators, to our housekeepers and chefs, everyone has done a tremendous job over the past few months, and I cannot thank Sacha, Pauline and the rest of the team enough for making Mills Meadow a wonderful place to live.”
