‘The heart and soul of the home’ – Ascot care home hero crowned

‘The heart and soul of the home’ – Ascot care home hero crownedA care home in Ascot has praised a team member for her dedication, hard work and passion throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Linda Waite, business administrator at Care UK’s Larkland House, on London Road, has been named a ‘Care UK Hero’ for going above and beyond for colleagues and residents in recent months.

The nomination was shared as part of a nationwide search for Care UK Heroes throughout its 122 care homes. From outstanding colleagues, to residents who have ensured morale remains high, this competition aims to shine a light on these exceptional people.

Linda has gone above and beyond her normal duties to support her colleagues. A true team player, she took over the housekeeping rota throughout lockdown and arrived early most days to ensure flowers that were donated for the home’s garden were planted, watered and could continue to thrive. She always goes out of her way to bring special treats for residents and colleagues, whether that be sweets or ginger beer.

Linda said: “I’m thrilled to have been chosen as a Care UK hero. I know just how difficult the past few months have been for everyone, so it was important for me to raise morale in any way I could, and I’m glad I was able to make a difference. The whole team at Larkland House has worked really hard to keep life as normal as possible for residents and I’m really grateful for their support.”

Jutta Staude, home manager at Larkland House, added: “The past few months have been challenging for the whole team, but we’re incredibly grateful for Linda’s upbeat attitude and support.

“Linda is the heart and soul of the home. She makes every new team member and relative feel welcome instantly, and she’s always up for putting a smile on a resident’s face. Whenever something needs doing, whether that be taking over the housekeeping rota or watering the flowers, she makes it happens – she’s met every challenge head on so far.

“From our nurses and lifestyle coordinators, to our housekeepers and chefs, everyone has done a tremendous job over the past few months, and I cannot thank Linda and the rest of the team enough for their hard work and for continuing to make Larkland House a wonderful place to live.”

Larkland House has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
