Copthorne resident pull their weight to stay healthy

Home news

Residents at a Copthorne care home have been working up a sweat to stay healthy.

Residents at Care UK’s Francis Court, on Borers Arms Road, have been keeping in shape thanks to Joe Wick’s senior workout videos.

Copthorne resident pull their weight to stay healthyDesigned for older people, the 10-minutes-long fitness videos offer low-impact mobility and conditioning workouts, designed to help older people build their confidence up with a majority of chair-based exercises. Moves include shallow squats onto a chair and shoulder presses using cans of beans as light dumbbells, and are ideal to break a sweat without putting unnecessary strain on the joint.

After starting off during lockdown to keep in shape, residents at Francis Court have now developed the fitness bug, with groups regularly meeting in the home’s lounges to work out together. When asked about her newfound hobby, Mildred, a resident and now fitness enthusiast, said: “It’s good to keep moving”.

Anna Allen, home manager at Francis Court, added: “Keeping active is key to staying healthy, and mobility exercises and gentle conditioning can go a long way. Throughout lockdown especially, many residents expressed an interest in fitness, so Joe’s videos were exactly what we were looking for.

“Even with restrictions being lifted, many residents still enjoy incorporating a quick workout in their daily routine – and the benefits have been fantastic so far. Not only have residents’ fitness improved, but it also never fails to put a smile on their faces. Thank you Joe!”

Francis Court has been designed to deliver the very best standards of care and to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives. The home provides full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
