How to prevent slips and trips – Cheltenham care home hosts free advice event

Home news

A care home in Cheltenham is inviting local people to join a free online event where they can learn more about preventing falls among older people.

On Friday 20th November, from 2pm-3pm, Care UK’s Sandfields, on St George’s Road, will be hosting its ‘falls prevention’ event virtually.

Kerrie Hodges, Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist, will be providing expert guidance on preventing falls, reducing balance problems and maintaining independence. During the event there will be a chance to learn the common causes of slips and falls and discover ways of preventing them at home or in care, as well as advice and tips on activities and exercises that improve balance and reduce the risk of falls.

Emma Mackenzie-Bedford, Home Manager at Sandfields, said: “To prevent health issues that occasionally occur as a result of accidental falls, it is important to the team and to the wellbeing of residents that we provide essential information on falls prevention. Here at Sandfields, we strive to provide in-depth advice to people in the local community on topics relating to our work, and we are able to do just that with the help of a specially selected expert who will be speaking at this session.

“It’s imperative that we create a safe environment for older people in the community, and ensure that family and friends have the correct information to prevent accidents. This event has proved popular in the past, so we are looking forward to seeing everyone virtually for what promises to be an interesting and inspiring afternoon of advice and guidance.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The team at Sandfields will host the event using Zoom, an online meeting space. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Laura Sayburn, and she will send a link to join the event and share her tips to make the most out of every event.

Sandfields is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, dementia, nursing and short-term respite care. The home, which features 90 en-suite bedrooms, has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café.
