Stroud care home helps town become dementia friendly

Home news

A care home in Stroud is helping to create a dementia-friendly community.

On Thursday 12th November, from 4pm-5pm, local people are invited to attend a virtual event hosted by Care UK’s Scarlet House care home, on Westwood Road, for a Dementia Friends session.

Stroud care home helps town become dementia friendlyThe Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is an initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia, raising awareness and understanding of the condition. It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, acts and talks about dementia.

Scarlet House’s Customer Relations Manager and Dementia Champion Katerina Pippi will be covering a number of topics to help people understand what it is like to live with dementia. There will also be support and practical advice on what dementia is and how memories are lost, as well as useful tips on how to overcome communication barriers and discover positive approaches to living with dementia.

There will also be advice for those attending about the small things they can do to make a difference to people living with dementia in the community.

Dorothy Pye, Home Manager at Scarlet House, said: “At Scarlet House we are committed to encouraging others to learn about dementia, and we are really proud of the progress we have made by supporting the Dementia Friends initiative. We want to educate people, but also help the community turn their knowledge into action by making our community more aware of those living with dementia.

“We look forward to hosting this virtual event. These sessions have proven incredibly popular in the past, so booking a place is essential.”

Scarlet House is a state-of-the-art care home and provides full-time residential, nursing, dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
