Thorrington carer ‘made up’ to be crowned care home hero

Home news

Residents and colleagues at a care home in Thorrington have praised team members for their dedication, hard work and passion throughout the coronavirus pandemic.

Stephen Patey, carer at Silversprings care home, on Tenpenny Hill, has been named as a ‘Care UK Hero’ for going above and beyond for colleagues and residents in recent months.

Thorrington carer ‘made up’ to be crowned care home heroThe nomination was shared as part of a nationwide search for Care UK Heroes throughout its 122 care homes. From outstanding colleagues, to residents who have ensured morale remains high, the competition aims to shine a light on these exceptional people.

In addition to his duties as a carer, Stephen has been a huge support to residents and their relatives throughout the pandemic, and like many people in lockdown, has even turned his hand to learning a new skill. Purchasing some new beauty items for a resident whose family members were unable to go out, he learnt how to apply the makeup just how she liked, helping her to feel confident every day.

Stephen said: “I’m thrilled to have been chosen as a Care UK hero. I know just how difficult the past few months have been for everyone, so it was important for me to raise morale in any way I could, even if that was just learning how to apply some blusher and lipstick. The whole team at Silversprings has worked really hard to create a positive environment, and I’m so grateful for their support.”

Joanne Rix, home manager at Silversprings, said: “Stephen is an invaluable member of our team, and his hard work is appreciated by everyone here at Silversprings.

“Stephen’s priority is first and foremost the wellbeing of residents – he’s always thinking of new, innovative ways to support each and every person to lead active and fulfilling lives. We are very proud to have him as part of the Silversprings family.

“From our nurses and lifestyle coordinators, to our housekeepers and chefs, everyone has done a tremendous job over the past few months, and I cannot thank Stephen and the rest of the team enough for making Silversprings a wonderful place to live.”

Silversprings is a modern care home set in attractive grounds and designed to support residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives. It provides residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care.
