All aboard the Orient Express at Quorn care home

Home news

A care home in Quorn turned itself into the Orient Express for a very special afternoon.

Residents at Care UK’s Lonsdale Mews, on Farley Way, stepped back in time when the home turned its café into an Orient Express train carriage from the 1920s.

All aboard the Orient Express at Quorn care homeUsing train tickets specially designed for the occasion, residents ‘on board’ were served high tea by Lonsdale Mews team members, who were dressed with 1920s-inspired outfits and accessories. To complete the immersive experience, a vintage gramophone played music from that era and steam train sounds.

Toby Sturgess, Home Manager at Lonsdale Mews, said: “Here at Lonsdale Mews, we like to make sure every day is special and this was certainly a day we’ll all remember. Everyone enjoyed transforming the home and taking the residents on a journey back in time.

“We have some big Agatha Christie fans at the home, who have all dreamt of stepping on board of the Orient Express, so we were delighted to be able to recreate this experience for them – minus the murder!

“It was great to be back in the 1920s, even for only an afternoon. Residents had a fantastic day, and we’re looking forward to time traveling again in our own way very soon.”

Lonsdale Mews offers full-time residential, nursing and dementia care, as well as short-term respite. The home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hairdressing salon and café. The layout of the building is configured into a series of individual suites, each having a dedicated lounge/dining room to help facilitate the creation of close-knit communities.
