Cheltenham care home at the ‘heart’ of the community for Christmas

Home news

A Cheltenham care home and its neighbours got in the Christmas spirit together.

The team at Care UK’s Sandfields, on St George’s Road, teamed up with Christchurch Primary School as part of nationwide initiatives ‘Hearts for Homes’ and ‘Hearts for Schools’.

As the school’s playground backs onto the home, children and residents also rang bells together.

Since the beginning of the festive season, Sandfields has been overwhelmed with support from the local community, from Christmas cards sent by Salem Rainbows to a group of carol singers from Cheltenham Ladies College performing outside the home for residents.

Laura Sayburn, Customer Relations Manager at Sandfields, said: “Christmas is for giving, and residents have loved creating personalised hearts for pupils at Christchurch Primary School.

“We’re incredibly grateful for all the messages and cards we’ve received from the community over the past few weeks – we love reading them. Having a choir performing outside the home for residents was definitely one of our highlights of the year too. Despite the challenges this year has brought, we now feel closer to our community than ever.

“On behalf of all of us at Sandfields, I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone who has shared the festive spirit with us – Merry Christmas everyone!”
