Team members and residents at a Bury St Edmunds care home have been celebrating after they became one of the first homes in the area to receive Covid-19 vaccinations for almost everyone living and working in the home.
With the support of Mount Farm Surgery, the vast majority of residents at Care UK’s Davers Court, on Shakers Lane, were given the first dose of the vaccination.
One of the first in the queue for the vaccination was 87-year-old Mary Dailey, who said: “I’m delighted to have had my vaccination – I’m looking forward to getting back to normality and being able to go to the shops again!”
Sally Shadbolt, Home Manager at Davers Court, said: “We are so pleased that residents in our home have had the vaccination. I would like to offer my thanks to the NHS team at Mount Farm Surgery. They were incredibly efficient, friendly, and made sure everything went smoothly, which was much appreciated.
“This is the first step towards getting back to normal, and we couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick off the year. We’re looking forward to receiving our second dose of the vaccine as soon as we’re able.”
Care UK is keen to stress that the vaccine doesn’t provide full protection against the virus so its teams will continue to follow their stringent infection control measures including regular deep cleaning, regular testing, the use of masks and other PPE, social distancing, air purifiers and temperature checks to keep everyone safe.
Davers Court is a modern care home which provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to live enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the care home has its very own café and hair salon, and there is plenty of space, both indoors and out, for relaxation and recreation.
