Sutton Coldfield care home pipes up for Scottish celebrations

Residents at a care home in Sutton Coldfield were surprised with a very special celebration to mark Burns Night.

The team at Care UK’s Mercia Grange, on Lichfield Road, pulled all the stops to mark Robert Burns’ birthday with a true Scottish celebration – including a garden performance from a local bag piper.

There was also haggis on the menu, and team members read parts of the ‘Ode to the Haggis’.

Thomas Bampfield, Home Manager at Mercia Grange, said: “Burns Night is a long-standing Scottish tradition, but that doesn’t mean we can’t celebrate it here at the heart of the Midlands. Many residents have fond memories of celebrating Burns Night in their younger years, so our celebrations were a great opportunity to reminisce while enjoying the sound of the bag pipes.

“Needless to say, the event was a hit with residents, and the snow outside definitely added to the magical atmosphere – for a moment, it felt like we’d travelled all the way to Scotland! We’d like to say a big thank you to our piper Andrew Brian, who helped us make the day extra special.”
