Tens across the board – thumbs up from local primary school for Chester care home

A care home in Chester is celebrating after receiving a perfect score on a leading review website – and a local school joined in the fun

Care UK’s Deewater Grange, on Chester Road, was the guest of honour at Saighton C of E Primary School’s assembly as they were awarded a review score of 10 by leading website carehome.co.uk – the highest possible mark.

Tens across the board – thumbs up from local primary school for Chester care homeAfter working together on a number of intergenerational projects when the home opened in 2020 residents and children had made further exciting plans together, including making a time capsule, but this was put on hold due to the pandemic. Over the past year, they stayed in touch via Zoom instead, with the school broadcasting choir performances and events such as their Remembrance Day service. This time, the home virtually joined the Saighton C of E Primary School’s Celebration Assembly, in which residents and team members were awarded a ‘Star of the Week’ to mark the achievement.

Sue Dawson, Head Teacher at Saighton C of E Primary School, said: “We know just how difficult the past year or so has been for families, so when we saw Deewater Grange’s achievement, we knew we had to do something to celebrate with them. Despite the pandemic, our ties are stronger than ever, and we can’t wait to be able to meet each other in person. We’ve developed a wonderful relationship with home; it’s really heart-warming to see how much our children and the residents appreciate each other especially at a time like this.”

Sally Cooper, Home Manager at Deewater Grange, said: “We were really touched with Saighton C of E Primary School’s invitation to their Celebration Assembly; we’ve missed everyone greatly and it was wonderful to see them again.

“I’m also incredibly proud of everyone here at Deewater Grange. Securing a review score of 10 is no easy feat in the best times, so to achieve this during a global pandemic is a credit to their hard work and dedication. Residents come first, no matter what, so I’m pleased to see the team’s commitment to residents’ wellbeing recognised.

“We’d like to say a big thank you to families for their kind comments – we love reading them, and to Saighton C of E Primary School for awarding us a ‘Star of the Week’, as well as for their ongoing support.”
