Residents at a care home in Cardiff have been treated to a surprise visit from some four-legged friends.
Care UK’s Llys Herbert, on Ty-Draw Road in Lisvane, had special visitors trot into the home – including a miniature pony, a goat and two alpacas – during an afternoon of animal therapy.

Residents were able to handle and stroke the animals brought in by sanctuary Bedrock Alpaca Visits, before learning about how to care for the different creatures and their favourite foods.
87-year-old resident, Anita Jones, said, “I love that everybody enjoyed the visit, it was the best thing I have seen! The alpacas were gentle and like big giants but didn’t cause any havoc! They were perfect in every way!”
Suzanne Tullet, Home Manager at Llys Herbert, added: “We are always looking for new and exciting experiences for residents to try here at the home, and we thought a visit from some furry friends would be a great way to bring a smile to everyone’s faces.
“The session was a huge success, and it was lovely to hear residents reminisce and share stories about their own family pets. Animal therapy is hugely beneficial for older people, especially those living with dementia, as it can help lift a person’s mood and encourage social interaction.
“We want to say a big thank you to Bedrock Alpaca Visits for bringing the animals along – it was a lovely day for everyone involved.”
Llys Herbert is a state-of-the-art care home that provides full-time residential and dementia care, as well as short-term respite care. Designed to enable residents to lead enjoyable and fulfilling lives, the home has its very own cinema, pub and hair and beauty salon, and there is plenty of space – both indoors and out – for relaxation and recreation.
