Kidderminster care home shortlisted in national awards

Home news

A care home in Kidderminster is celebrating after being named as a finalist for a national award.

Care UK’s Brook Court, on Oldnall Road, has been shortlisted in the ‘Best for Communication’ category at the Care Home Awards.

Kidderminster care home shortlisted in national awardsThe Care Home Awards recognise and reward excellence and innovation in UK care home management, operation and delivery. The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony in September.

When the pandemic started, the home immediately invested in technology to ensure residents could stay in touch with their families virtually through video calls, regular Facebook updates and garden visits. Later on, the home opened its own Covid-safe visiting suite to allow residents to see their loved ones safely.

Residents with loved ones abroad were able to keep in close contact with them on a regular basis too, including Vera Hodges, who had daily video calls with her daughter in Australia.

Gill Pratt, the Home Manager, has an open-door policy which has helped to enhance communication within the home – for both colleagues and residents alike. This helps ensuring team members have all the right tools to deliver the highest standards of care and feel fulfilled in their role, emphasising the importance of developing strong interpersonal relationships and getting to know the residents. Committed to providing person-centred care, the home always ensures residents and their families are involved in developing and reviewing the care they receive on a regular basis, informing loved ones of any changes as and when they happen.

Gill said: “We are delighted to have made it to the finals in the ‘Best for Communication’ category at the Care Home Awards.

“We’ve always put a strong emphasis on communication, both internally and with families, as we believe in person-centred care – bringing together our expertise and families’ insights into their loved ones’ lives to provide the highest possible standard of care.

“It’s been a challenging year for residents and their families, but we’re proud to have made it a bit easier by doing everything in our power to make sure they could keep in touch – whether virtually or in person via our Covid-safe visiting suites. I’m incredibly proud of our team and everything they do to ensure Brook Court is a fantastic place to call home. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for a win later this year!”

The winners will be announced at the annual awards ceremony taking place on 10th September 2021.
