Tech investment brings magic to Chester care home

Home news

A Chester care home has stepped into the digital age by providing residents with a ‘Magic Tablet’.

Residents at Care UK’s Deewater Grange, on Chester Road, can now play with a special giant tablet which provides physical and emotional stimulation for older people, and can be beneficial for those living with dementia.

Tech investment brings magic to Chester care homeAvailable for all to use, the tablet uses game technology and a touch screen system to display a variety of games and tools on the large pad. The technology enables residents to play card games, connect to the internet, watch videos and even reach out to their loved ones.

Brian, a resident at Deewater Grange, said: “Playing card games and being able to listen to music is what I enjoy the most when using the tablet.”

Sally Cooper, Home Manager at Deewater Grange, added: “Enabling residents to live fulfilling lives is at the heart of what we do here at Deewater Grange, and our tablet is a great way to provide meaningful experiences using the latest technology.

“We’ve been incorporating it into our existing group activities, as well as on a one-to-one basis – needless to say, it’s been a hit among residents! In the past year especially, it also proved to be an incredibly valuable tool to stay in touch with loved ones more easily.

“We’re looking forward to inviting relatives in have a go once we are able. The tablet can really help families to connect together through games, so it will be a fantastic way of encouraging intergenerational play between residents and their grandchildren when visiting restrictions begin to ease.”

Deewater Grange is a state-of-the-art care home which provides full-time residential, dementia and nursing care. The home has been designed to enable residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence, and incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities, including its own café, bar, cinema as well as a hair and beauty salon.
