The rest is history – Ware care home invites local community to go back in time

Home news

A care home in Ware is inviting the community to join a free online event to learn more about the history of their local area.

On Wednesday 26th May, from 2:30pm-4pm, the Care UK team at Snowdrop House, on Baldock Street, will be joined by former Mayor, John Wing, from Ware Museum, to talk to residents and local people about the history of the town.

The virtual talk will also cover the interesting history of Snowdrop House itself, which was previously known to locals as the Snowdrop Laundry, in 1960s, and later as the Canons Hotel.

Clare Crow, Home Manager at Snowdrop House, said: “Many of the residents here at Snowdrop House have lived in Ware all of their lives, and some even remember staying the Canons Hotel before Snowdrop House was built.

“Reminiscence activities form a huge part of life at Snowdrop House, and can bring up happy memories and the associated emotions, which is incredibly beneficial for older people. We wanted to share this experience with local people too, as we live in such an interesting and history-rich town, with so much to celebrate and learn more about.

“Residents and team members are proud to live in Ware and as an active member of our community, this forms an integral part of our identity, which is why we are delighted to be hosting such a special event.

“It’s set to be an insightful and educational afternoon, and residents are looking forward to sharing their memories with John, and other locals.”

For anyone unsure about how to take part in the virtual event, help is at hand. The teams will host the event using Zoom, an online meeting space. Simply call or email Customer Relations Manager, Sharon Butler, who will let you know how to join the event and share tips to make the most out of the session.

Snowdrop House delivers a full range of residential and nursing care for older people, including short-term respite care, and specialist care for people living with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.
