A care home in Hythe brought the holiday spirit to residents to celebrate the start of summer.
Care UK’s Carpathia Grange, on Southampton Road, organised a ‘day out’ to the home’s very own beach in celebration of Go Paddling Week, complete with fish and chips, a pool to paddle in, and of course, a cone of ice cream.
With holidays abroad out of the question for most people this year, team members at the home were keen to ensure that residents were still able to experience all the fun of the seaside. To make the afternoon as authentic as possible, they also went to town creating a crazy golf course and even a hook-a-duck game for residents to enjoy.
84-year-old resident Angela said: “It was a wonderful afternoon, just like being at the beach! I especially enjoyed the hook a duck game.”
Pooja Dhoot, Home Manager at Carpathia Grange, said: “With the sun shining and warmer weather appearing at last, many residents were beginning to reminisce about their favourite holidays and trips to the beach.
“Here at Carpathia Grange, we strive to support residents to lead fulfilling lives however we can, and as trips to the beach aren’t currently possible, we decided we’d simply have to bring the beach to residents instead. From paddling in the pool to celebrating a hole in one, everyone had a fantastic day, and we’re already planning our next surprise!”
Carpathia Grange is a three-storey care home, which provides residential, dementia and nursing care, features 62 ensuite bedrooms, and has been designed to enable its residents to live active and fulfilled lives, while also promoting independence. The care home incorporates space for hobby and leisure activities and includes its own cinema, hair salon and café.
